This application is designed to record three types of data from a Polar H10 heart rate sensor: electrocardiogram (ECG), heart rate (HR), and the R-R interval (RR). The H10 firmware version 3.0.35 or higher is required for ECG functionality. Each data type can be visualized in real-time charts within the app interface. Screenshots of the real-time charts can be captured by selecting the "save to photos" button. Additionally, users can record a video of the live chart using the iOS screen recorder feature, which may need to be enabled through Settings —> Control Center.
With an active subscription and "Enable premium features" (IN-APP purchase), all collected data is saved to the ECG Recorder App's directory in the "Files" app, with each file named after the timestamp when recording commenced. Data is stored in ASCII text files, containing one value per line for easy import into other software applications. Premium features also offer live charts for ECG, HR, and RR.
The ECG data is sampled at a rate of 130 Hz (or precisely 130.061 Hz) in microvolts (µV). This translates to a value recorded every 7.692 milliseconds (ms), resulting in 78,000 values over a 10-minute recording session. Upon importing this data into programs like Microsoft Excel or Apple Numbers, users will obtain a continuous column of µV values that can be converted to millivolts (mV) by dividing all values by 1000. It's necessary to create a time column to plot the data accurately; for a time column in seconds, values should be set as 0.007692, 0.015385, 0.023077, 0.030769, and so forth. By plotting mV against seconds using this time column as X and mV as Y coordinates, users can display ECG data effectively.
The "Set marker" function within the ECG live chart adds a distinct value of 2000 µV to the dataset for easy identification in graphs or search operations.
For further data analysis, the open-source software “EDFbrowser” can convert ASCII text files into .edf files that offer enhanced browsing capabilities. Sample ECG data and demo videos for importing into Apple Numbers and EDFBrowser are accessible on the project's GitHub page (https://github.com/poml88/ecg-recorder-ios).
HR data entails an average beats per minute (bpm) recorded approximately every second. To plot this data accurately, users should create a corresponding time column with values of consecutive seconds.
Regarding RR data, it represents the duration between two successive R-waves of the QRS signal on the electrocardiogram (with HR being the reciprocal). RR intervals are recorded in milliseconds.
The application is available for free download to explore its functionalities and connect with devices, allowing users to preview segments of live charts. To access premium features, users can make IN-APP purchases with each subscription offering a one-week free trial period for full-feature evaluation.
Subscriptions are managed through iTunes accounts and will automatically renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the current subscription period ends. Users can adjust renewal settings and manage subscriptions within their iTunes Account Settings. Please review our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy for detailed information.
